Hundreds of people all over Lake County have participated in our Anti-Poverty walk/ run since it began 5 years ago. Our mission is to reduce the causes and effects of poverty, promote self-sufficiency of individuals and families with low incomes and improve the standard of living in Lake County. Every year, the number of clients served through our organization continues to increase as well as the funds needed to support these services. Our funding from local and federal agencies requires us to share some of the total program cost.
According to the 2011 US Census estimate, Lake County has a population of 706,222 and 57,910 (8.2%) are below the poverty level. The Why I Walk/Run is aimed at providing an opportunity for the Lake County community, businesses, organizations, churches and other groups to raise funds to support this cause in combating poverty at a local level. By supporting this anti-poverty walk you are helping in changing the lives of others.
